Paying tolls in the EU using an OBU device
There have been two main types of road tolls in the European Union up to now:
- Tollgates where the driver is required to stop and pay the toll with cash or a card
- Purchasing road tax stickers/digital passes ("vignette") to get permission to operate a vehicle on roads inside the European Union
The European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) was introduced in 2018, making it feasible to pay tolls in the EU using a single on-board unit (OBU) for the first time.
Without requiring your driver to make a stop, the OBU allows the toll collecting system to electronically store and analyse the data and clearly identify the vehicle paying the toll. E-box Logistic provides you with a customised toll collecting solution for your business. Our company DOES NOT REQUEST a bank guarantee , and a
ooperation agreement is sufficient.
* The availability of payment methods varies by country. View the map of the European Union and select a country to learn more.
Benefits of the EETS system
The driver may self-install the OBU on the windscreen in a matter of minutes.
Power source using the vehicle's three-wire cable or cigarette lighter.
Replacing OBUs in the transport fleet is simple and does not require going back to or visiting the garage.
A manual axle declaration is one example of a country-specific piece of information that may be directly added to the OBU.
Software updates and automatic state activation are performed directly on the OBU using the "over the air" interface.
Europe-wide toll recognition that is both technologically independent and dependable, based on continuously updated standards.

Frequently asked questions and their answers
What is EETS?
EETS (European Electronic Tolling Service) was devised to establish an electronic toll collecting service across Europe. The goal is to provide a toll collection solution enabling EETS customers to obtain a toll collection device (On-Board Unit, i.e. "OBU") from an authorised service provider ("EETS provider") that is interoperable with all European toll area systems across national borders. Strict registration and certification requirements apply to all EETS providers, and their services must abide by all applicable national and EU legislation.
What are the advantages of EETS?
In the future, collecting tolls in Europe will require a single on-board unit (OBU) rather than several different ones. With only one contractual partner and a clear consolidated invoice, the user may bill the tolls for various toll locations across Europe thanks to EETS.
